Ogden is a city on the rise. Nicknamed Junction City in the early 1900s, Ogden was the transfer point between the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads. Hundreds of trains stopped daily at Ogden's Union Station as the railroad and the stockyards brought captains of industry to Ogden as well as U.S. Presidents and celebrities.
After the 2002 Winter Olympics, which hosted events in Ogden, the community began to rebuild itself around the outdoors. Ogden is now nationally recognized for is culture and growth in outdoor recreation and other industries. Whether you've been to Ogden or not, if you spend any time downtown it's clear that the city is making all the right moves and investments. Downtown is packed with incredible restaurants, boutique hotels, and vast entertainment options including theaters, live music, and even the home of the Pioneer League Ogden Raptors baseball team. Don't sleep on Ogden, it's definitely one of Utah's best hidden gems.
Downtown Ogden has been revitalized with new businesses, housing, and public gathering places, made even grander than what stood in the glory days. People have returned to Ogden while the art and architecture remain to honor the history. Today, the community is diverse, young, and increasingly well-educated.
From every chain restaurant and major retailer to the best local dives and farmers markets, Ogden has everything you want in a small city. Speaking of that, Ogden is the perfect sized city; big enough to house everything you need and small enough to not feel overly crowded or congested. A short drive from downtown Salt Lake City and the international airport, your within reach of great travel and major sports franchises as well.
It is clear that Ogden is committed to the future. The city is bustling with new restaurants and retail spaces, meeting and event facilities, world class museums and art galleries, and good neighborhoods. Not only is the city a fun and beautiful place to explore, but it's also becoming a place where people want to live and build up and shape the future.
And we're not done singing Ogden's praises just yet. If you're an outdoor enthusiast this place is truly ideal. For the summer the surrounding area is jam-packed with hiking and biking trails, great fishing in the Uinta range, and an hour from famous Park City. And in the winter there is Powder Mountain, Snowbasin, and Nordic Valley all to the east in the mountains for skiing and snowboarding. Again, Park City is also just a short drive away.
